Are you ready for the 7 essential commitments?

The FHCM and CNMI ESG framework asks every fashion supplier for seven non-negotiable commitments. Answer one question per commitment, thinking of what you can prove today: at the end you will see what you already cover and what you need for the rest.

  1. Commitment 1 · No child labour Can you show that nobody under the minimum age works for you, and do you check the age of everyone you hire?

For example a written policy, copies of identity documents, the checks made when hiring.

  2. Commitment 2 · No forced labour Is every worker free to leave, do they keep their own documents, and do they pay nothing to be hired?

No withheld documents, no debts to the employer, no forced overtime, no recruitment fees paid by workers.

  3. Commitment 3 · Workers' health and safety Do you have an up-to-date risk assessment, are your premises compliant on fire safety, electrical systems, machinery and escape routes, and are there no obvious hazards in the work areas?

For example the written risk assessment (DVR in Italy, DUERP in France), system inspections, fire equipment, an emergency plan with evacuation drills.

  4. Commitment 4 · Compliance with environmental laws Do you hold the environmental permits you need, and do you manage waste, discharges and emissions as the law requires?

For example waste registers and transfer notes, discharge or emission permits, if your activity needs them.

  5. Commitment 5 · Minimum wage, recorded and reasonable hours Do you record every worker's hours, overtime included and within legal limits, and do you pay at least the legal or collective-agreement minimum, with proper payslips?

Hours recorded reliably, overtime within the limits, wages paid in a traceable way.

  6. Commitment 6 · No discrimination, violence or harassment Do you have a written rule against discrimination and harassment, do workers know whom to report a problem to, and is anyone who reports protected from retaliation?

A policy shared with everyone, training, a way to raise concerns, proportionate disciplinary measures.

  7. Commitment 7 · Legality, ethics and transparency towards the client Is your business in good standing (registration, social contributions, taxes), does it have anti-corruption rules, and can it give the client complete and truthful documents?

For example the company registration extract, proof that social contributions are paid, the client's code of conduct signed, an anti-corruption policy.
